Why it matters here

Waterproofing inspections on Fraser Rise builds

A Fraser Rise double storey often has three or four wet areas, two of them above living rooms, so a small membrane fault can end up as a stained ceiling downstairs. The items we record most here are in the preparation and the detail: screeds with divots that will hold water, membrane short of the 40 mm required each side of a bath hob, screw heads in the shower base not fully covered, and membranes damaged by other trades before the tiler arrives. Each takes minutes to fix now.

What we find at this stage in Fraser Rise

  • Shower screed uneven and likely to pond
  • Bath hob junction under 40 mm of membrane
  • Screws and fixings not sealed under membrane
  • Membrane damaged by later trades
  • Membrane left exposed and unprotected

FAQ

Waterproofing inspections in Fraser Rise: common questions

Which standard covers wet areas?

AS 3740 for waterproofing domestic wet areas, with the National Construction Code and Housing Provisions. Your contract and the Guide to Standards and Tolerances 2015 also apply.

Why check the screed as well as the membrane?

The screed sets the fall to the waste. Divots and rough patches hold water under the tiles, which then sits against the membrane for years.

Is a flood test part of this visit?

No. A flood test is the waterproofer's own process. We inspect by eye and by hand, which is how detail faults like bath hobs and unsealed screws are found.

Can waterproofing be inspected with the fixing stage?

Sometimes, but on a big Fraser Rise build the tiler often follows within a day or two. We would rather come early than miss the membrane.

What if some rooms are already tiled?

We inspect the rest and state which rooms were covered and not assessed.

Who pays to fix it?

The builder, who coordinates the waterproofer and tiler. The report gives them the room, the photo and the clause.
